Siem Reap – the Third Stop of SECC and CDX Roadshow of 2018

On December 05, 2018 Cambodian Derivatives Exchange (“CDX”) participated in Securities and Exchange Commission of Cambodia’s (“SECC”) roadshow at Apsara Angkor Hotel, Siem Reap province. This roadshow is the third station of the five-province roadshow for 2018, focusing mainly on “Derivative Businesses in Cambodia” with purposes of bolstering and spreading the awareness of derivatives investment, promoting the regulated derivatives market, boosting confidence of investors, and equipping them with investment know-how.

Of all the five stations, CDX had already joined in the roadshows in Preah Sihanouk and Kampong Cham provinces, and the exchange will be partaking in the coming roadshows in Banteay Meanchey and Battambang provinces.

SECC’s Deputy Director General H.E. Mr. Sok Dara gave his remarks with the focal points of derivatives introduction and SECC’s duties of fostering derivatives trading and facilitating the development of the regulated market throughout Cambodia. Mr. Yun Sovannara, Deputy Head of Collective Investment Scheme and Derivatives Business Supervision Division of SECC, then laid the stress on the general overview of derivatives market, the advancement of Cambodia derivatives trading, regulatory structures, current and potential challenges, and SECC’s future action plans. Mr. Sovannara was of the belief that all of these would account to some extent for the progress of the derivatives industry in the country.

CDX is the only Central Counterparty company that has engaged in every roadshow stop with SECC this year, and thanks to its persistence of trailblazing the Cambodia financial market to match international standards, CDX has reflected an illustration of professionalism and set a benchmark for its derivatives counterparts to catch up.

CDX took part in an international exhibition in Cyprus earlier this year, and the exchange over again maintained its habitual presence at huge international events with its last month’s involvement in the 2018 London Summit in England. At there, CDX was the only Asian faces from Cambodia and introduced the culture with pride along with a great deal of investment opportunities for overseas investors.

CDX’s Director Mr. Lawrence Kook was invited to be a special guest speaker at the roadshow. With delight, Mr. Lawrence drew the participants’ attention to the point that bolstering the public awareness and broadening their knowledge of financial investment are ranked on the summit of CDX’s priority list.

“Cambodia derivatives market has kept growing and is on the way to gradually reach its full capacity. To date, we have seen many derivative brokers from Japan, China, and Vietnam, to name a few, joining us, and under SECC’s leadership, CDX has brought Cambodia derivatives market to different parts of the world, not just in the ASEAN region. We are on a beautiful journey,” enthusiastic Lawrence added.

Following the successes of the roadshows in Preah Sihanouk, Kampong Cham, and Siem Reap provinces, the future of Cambodia derivatives industry now looks even more promising.
