On August 22, 2019, Cambodian Derivatives Exchange (“CDX”) and Insurance Association of Cambodia (“IAC”) co-hosted a seminar on “The Synergy of Derivatives and Insurance Industries”, which was presided over by H.E. Mr. Sou Socheat, Director General of Securities and Exchange Commission of Cambodia (“SECC”), and participated by government officials as well as senior management of various financial institutions. This seminar marks the first time that two big entities from two different industries – derivatives and insurance – joined hands to promote investment initiatives.
Held at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra, the seminar was specially designed to provide linkage and business opportunity for Insurance sector. The seminar covered investment knowledge and skills and demonstrated how to diversify investment portfolios, tailoring investment strategies and maximizing the return on investment.
Mr. Lawrence Kook, Director of CDX, expressed his enthusiasm of the collaboration between CDX and IAC and believed investment opportunities and benefits across industries would be widely exposed as the results of the collaboration. Mr. Lawrence also thanked SECC, especially H.E. Mr. Sou Socheat who graced the seminar with his opening remarks, for their leadership and efforts in developing derivatives market, laying a foundation and facilitating derivatives firms in a stage ready to expand their business scopes and partners.
Educating the public and specific sector about investment know-how is the main mission of CDX. In 2018, the entity was the only Central Counterparty to participate in all stops of the SECC roadshow. Making the roadshow omnipresent in Cambodia this year is high on its to-do list, as well joining the London Summit in England in the next few months.
